“Messages: Bottles and Birds”
Susan Seward is a local artist creating works primarily in ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.
Her formative years to date as an artist began in San Francisco, California where she studied ceramics at San Francisco State University and was very active in exhibiting her work.
She then moved to Europe and lived in France for two years experimenting with mediums, drawing and recording ideas and interpretations. She now works out of her studio in Burlington and at the Burlington City Arts clay studio.
Susan is most strongly influenced by human interactions and the ways in which we cope in an overly complicated world. Using art as a vehicle is a way in which she manages a heightened state of interconnectedness that goes beyond physicality. This installation “Messages” is an attempt to communicate her thoughts and awareness of how we relay a message and the sense of emotional unburdening we feel when we do. Whether these messages are organized thoughts or whether our unconscious mind takes over, a feeling of purity and cleanliness prevails when released from the body.
